Larry Hanover, a member of Beth El since 1994, had his daughter as his first b'nai mitzvah student in 2014. He has always loved singing, joining choir in 2014 and learning to chant Torah about a dozen years before that. Larry, who is president of Men's Club, is a writer/editor who coauthored a recently published Holocaust memoir with fellow congregant Fred Behrend entitled Rebuilt from Broken Glass.
Faye received her Jewish education at Beth El, becoming a Bat Mitzvah and graduating Hebrew High and Midrashah in the 1980's, but didn't actually learn how to read Torah until 2004. Faye began teaching B'nai Mitzvah students in 2006, in addition to her day job as a genetic counselor, and has really enjoyed helping each of her students grow Jewishly and gain self confidence during their 10 months of study together. When not working or teaching, Faye enjoys cooking and photography and spending time with her husband and three children.
I have been teaching B’nai Mitzvah students for almost 15 years at Beth El. I am passionate about Jewish learning and living. For me, teaching a student is more than just preparing the student for that day. It is about finding the life lessons in the study of Torah, and sharing my passion for and inspiration from Judaism.
