On Saturday morning, June 29, we will be joined by Fathi Marshood, who will speak during services and answer questions during Kiddush.  He will speak about life in Israel as an Israeli Arab, and share stories of how Israeli Jews and Arabs live together peacefully in Haifa, Israel’s third-largest city. 

Fathi Marshood is the Director of the Haifa office of Shatil, the New Israel Fund's empowerment and training center, where he has worked since 1992.  Shatil Haifa is a microcosm of civil society in Israel, where Jews and Arabs, veteran Israelis and new immigrants from the FSU and Ethiopia work together to strengthen existing Israeli organizations and to proactively initiate social enterprises, some of which have grown into highly successful independent associations. Every year, hundreds of representatives of Israeli organizations come to the Haifa offices for training, one-on-one consulting, and courses. Shatil’s consultants have made a significant contribution to the rise of a vibrant, effective local civil society in Haifa and the North of Israel.
